Tree Planting Done Right

The right tree in the right spot, planted to last. Serving Elma, Orchard Park, Hamburg, and the Buffalo Southtowns.

Planting a tree looks simple until it dies two summers later. Most trees fail because they were planted too deep, in the wrong spot, or left to dry out their first season. We plant the right way: a wide hole, root flare at grade, roots loosened, staked only if needed, watered in, and finished with a clean mulch ring, never a mulch volcano. Magic Mulch is locally owned and owner-operated out of Elma Center, and Mikhai is on site at every job.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Spring and early fall are ideal. The soil is warm enough for roots to establish before summer heat or winter freeze. We plant from April through October.

Either works. We can source healthy nursery stock for you, or if you already bought a tree we will plant it properly. Sourced trees are priced at cost plus planting labor.

A tree planted too deep suffocates slowly. The root flare, where the trunk widens into the roots, has to sit right at ground level. It is the number one planting mistake we fix.

Mulch piled against the trunk traps moisture, rots the bark, and invites pests. We finish every tree with a flat ring of mulch pulled back from the trunk, which protects roots without harming the tree.
